Mouth to Lung Vs Sub-Ohm Tanks

Vape tanks can be broken into two categories:

  • Mouth To Lung (MTL)
  • Sub-Ohm Tanks (DL)

Mouth To Lung Tanks (MTL)

Any tank that has a coil resistance above 1ohm is considered to be a mouth to lung tank. Mouth to lung tanks generally operate at a lower wattage than sub-ohm tanks, have a tighter airflow and allow users to vape as high as 20MG nicotine strength e-liquids. The ideal is to create a vaping experience that is similar to a cigarette style draw. MTL tanks utilise e-liquids and nic salts that have a 50/50 VG to PG ratio. Users should never attempt to vape high vg e-liquids through a mouth to lung tank because the thicker nature of them will significantly reduce the life of a mouth to lung coil.

Sub-Ohm/Direct To Lung Vape Tanks

Sub-Ohm tanks have a coil resistance below 1 ohm and allow users to benefit from better flavour and bigger clouds. Tricksters often utilise direct to lung tanks as a way to practice and perform vape tricks. DL tanks operate at a higher wattage than MTL vape tanks and users utilise high VG e-liquids in them. Due to higher power demand of sub-ohm tanks, it is important that users select an appropriate box mod that can cope with a higher power demand.

You must never vape e-liquids that have a lower VG/PG ratio than 60/40 through a sub-ohm tank. The thinner nature of these e-liquids are likely to cause your atomiser to leak, spit back, burn out and create a harsher throat hit. Similarly, users must never vape more than 6MG through a sub-ohm tank because the higher nicotine is likely to cause an unbearable throat hit and maybe even nicotine headaches. Taking back more than 6MG through a sub-ohm atomiser can also cause sickness and nausea.

How to Clean a Vape Tank?

Vape tanks tend to keep themselves clean quite easily if the coil within them is changed regularly and if they are kept away from dirt and dust. Using "clean" e-liquids also helps to keep them in a clean state. However, if you do find it needs a clean, simply take the tank off your battery or mod, remove the coil, dissemble the removable parts and run it under water. After, insert a fresh coil and you can use it as normal.

How To Change Flavours In A Vape Tank?

If you like to chop and change your e-liquid flavours on a regular basis, you don't necessarily need to change your coil at the same time as you change your flavour. However, to truly taste your new e-liquids, it is best to change your coil. Also, if you are changing from a menthol flavour to a dessert based e-liquid, we strongly recommend changing your coil because the two flavours are unlikely to mix well within your coils.

Leak Proof Tanks

Whilst some manufacturer's may suggest their new tank design is leak proof, most tanks with a bottom airflow will still leak if they are not correctly assembled or if the coil burns out. When a coil burns out, the cotton is unable to absorb any more e-liquid and it will simply drop into the middle of the coil and leak out through the airflow system.  A simple coil change will resolve this issue.
